Our Story

Ordinary people can do extraordinary things.  Have you ever wondered what your life would look like if you acted on the “I wonder…” and “What if…” questions in your mind.  The biggest thing you have to lose is the regret for never having tried!  Even if you don’t achieve the exact results you imagined, you will be stretched and experience growth that would never have been possible without the experience of boldly and bravely chasing your dream.

Two years ago, a little white puppy with a copper colored spot atop her head was born.  We named her Penny. Her breeder made us promise to continue to feed her raw goat milk because she had seen its benefits in her dogs and puppies.  Snuggling that little face against mine, I would have promised anything to take her home.

Sourcing the goat milk proved more challenging than I expected.  Begrudgingly, each time I purchased the expensive, out of state product at the high-end, natural pet store, I mused, “Why am I even buying this milk in the first place?” The seeds of our business were being sown.

Research became the sun and water that cultivated those tiny seeds.  I learned about the multitude of benefits of goat milk beyond those for our pets...for our digestion, and for our skin.  You can read about some of the benefits of goat milk here.

I wondered if I could source this beneficial food myself?  “What if... I just milk my own goat?”  I had never cared for farm animals, I had never milked an animal, I had never birthed an animal!  Still, I wondered...

Our family started using goat milk soap as a form of market research for those business seedlings that were really starting to take root.  To say we were impressed is an understatement! Dry, itchy winter skin disappeared. My husband, who has a history of skin cancer, was asked by his dermatologist, “What are you doing differently?  Your skin looks great.”

What if... we make our own goat milk soap?

Those “I wonder’s” and “What if’s” grew into Land of Milk and Honey, our family owned and operated goat farm where we create indulgent goat milk products to offer our customers sweet escape from the stress of everyday life.  We want to offer you a break from the daily grind.

Recognizing that countless things are vying for our attention in this fast paced life, we hope the irresistible aroma of pure essential oils and the moisturizing lather of our hand-crafted soap transforms little everyday things, like washing your hands and bathing, into moments of luxury!

We are working hard, making an abundance of this luscious soap so we can open the website for online sales this Spring. We have applied to local farmers markets so you can meet us and buy directly from our farm this Summer.  And the future is full of more “I wonder…” and “What if…” dreams. Dreams for a storefront, milking room and soap parlour, and expanding our bee and honey operation.

These entrepreneurial goals have manifested into more than a business.  The journey has been marked by deep joy and satisfaction for our whole family. None of this would have materialized without our whole family working together, we are all involved...and we want to share it with you!

Consumers today are interested in where and who their products come from. You can read all about our family and our guiding principles. It is the perfect time to get to know us as your source for pure-bred, ADGA registered Nigerian Dwarf goats, artisan crafted goat milk soaps, and honey from the heart of Leelanau County! We are your farmers!
